A history of African volunteering with AVA
African Volunteer Aid was born in 2014 when Founder Jessica Charlotte volunteered with another organisation and discovered that her volunteering fees were being kept by the organisation rather than being used to help the communities who desperately needed the funding.
While on this disastrous volunteering vacation, not only did Jessica’s money fail to reach the community it was intended for, her time and skills were sadly squandered. Spending her volunteering time handing out pencils in an overstaffed classroom, Jessica returned home unfulfilled and frustrated.
With a determination to bring change to communities who need it and highlight the needs of impoverished communities to people in the western world, Jessica launched African Volunteer Aid to give enthusiastic volunteers an opportunity to transform lives and grow communities.
